PROJECT – Building Separation, Demolition & Site Clearance
LOCATION – Denaby Main, near Doncaster
DATE – November 2015
PROJECT VALUE – £40,000
PROJECT DESCRIPTION – BDB Dismantling have successfully demolished the redundant buildings on site, in the process working around live electricity cables, gas main and within millimeters of a live substation feeding the local area.
The buildings on site were a mixture of different construction types, which had been added to repeatedly over the years, hiding a fragile and delicate main structure beneath. It was realized at an early stage that the site was unusual and extra diligence was to be afforded as unknown surprises could lay around the corner as was initially realized when the service plans identified limited electricity cables on site, when we knew this wasn’t the case due to the substation within the periphery.
For this reason, a structural appraisal was carried out to determine the condition of the buildings super structure prior to demolition. BDB Operatives set about carefully stripping back the various layers of cladding, working down to the structural frame beneath.
To avoid compromising the integrity of buildings to remain, a selection of circular saws with diamond tipped blades were used to separate the structures & resulting masonry removed by hand to establish air gaps before standard mechanical demolition methods were employed by hydraulic excavator.
It was of paramount importance to the Client that services to the existing offices remained live for as long as possible and time without them was kept to an absolute minimum. The work was carefully programmed around the Clients requirements. Prior to the completion of mechanical demolition work, a 1meter x 1meter trench was excavated from the substation & along the frontage to allow the electric and gas services to be re-routed by the utilities engineers, allowing the final bays to be demolished.
