PROJECT DESCRIPTION – As a direct result of our performance on the Tannochside demolition project, BDB Dismantling were awarded the principal contractor role and tasked with the complete demolition of the 10 acre Stourbridge site following asbestos abatement.

The roofs of all buildings were lined with asbestos cement sheets and needed removing prior to mechanical demolition. BDB Dismantling operatives, having the necessary skills, training, experience & medicals to carryout such work, set out removing the hazardous material. As the project developed the roof was found to be double sheeted in places therefore following risk assessment & to eliminate potential for personal injury a mechanical approach was also adopted after the appointment of an analytical contractor and notification to the HSE as non licensed asbestos removal work.

Mechanical demolition commenced from the rear of site & progressed to the front, leaving the side & front walls up until last to provide acoustic & dust buffers to local residents, located on the new estate opposite the site. No complaints have been reported to BDB Dismantling. We were more than happy to assist Ibstock Brick & as a variation to the contract dismantled various pieces of plant & kit on site for their reuse elsewhere, something that Ibstock had intended to remove themselves within the original contract.

Ceramic fibre blanket, located within kilns & kiln cars & heated to temperatures in excess of 1000°C were carefully removed during the demolition process by operatives wearing full PPE protection, keeping the material damp at all times & disposing it off site as a hazardous waste.
