Project Summary

To dismantle and remove from site two redundant dockside cranes, the larger weighing approximately 500 tonnes and 60 metres standing in height, the smaller approximately 250 tonnes and 40 metres in height.

Actions taken:

A survey of both cranes was carried out to ascertain the points of separation. Our structural engineer then determined the exact weight of each section to be lifted. The centre of gravity was then calculated to identify the correct point at which to lift each section. The port authority liaised with our Dismantling Projects Manager to ascertain the least disruptive timescale for the project, within the constraints of a busy working port.
