Project scope:

The site clearance to slab level for redevelopment of a redundant 30 acre foundry and casting facility. Following the closure of the site and sale of the equipment, the site was cleared to slab level for the developer. All materials arising were disposed of off site to a licensed facility for, where possible, reclamation and reprocessing.

Project Assessment:

A full project assessment was undertaken to allow for project and site specific risk assessments to be carried out. These addressed such issues as the Type 3 Asbestos Survey, site drainage and the adjacent rail lines. Site and project specific method statements were developed for the client’s review and comment to address such issues.

Project Management:

Due to the site being closed the management infrastructure relating to site activities and their controlling measures were no longer in place. B.D.B implemented and managed a robust site management framework to operate and control activities throughout the project. The management systems were developed around our priority of ensuring the safety of our workforce, maintaining legal compliance and meeting statutory regulation. Management tools were developed in the form of control documents, checklists and audit sheets, permit systems, meeting agendas, etc.

Outcome:

Validation of the project’s compliance to SHE legislation was essential for the future development of site. All relevant information required by the CDM Coordinator was supplied allowing the completion of the Health & Safety File (including full traceability of all materials arising).
