PROJECT – Gottwald Crane Demolition

LOCATION – Immingham

DATE – August to September 2018

PROJECT DESCRIPTION – Our growing portfolio of crane dismantling projects continues with the removal of Gottwald crane number 5 at Immingham Dock. We have successfully completed many crane dismantling projects over recent years, the cranes being of different shape, size and model.

The 300 ton, 60-meter high Gottwald crane had been out of service for some time and the Client had decided now was the right time for it to be decommissioned.

The Client wanted a complete decommissioning and dismantling service that included initial enabling work: asbestos survey and removal; gas/oil removal; hydraulic oil removal. To prevent potential of environmental contamination, BDB carried this out prior to any dismantling operations taking place.

The Gottwald crane was dismantled in a designed sequence taking into consideration weights of the component parts being removed and size of mobile crane used. Calculations were made and it was determined that a 220ton mobile crane was needed for the main work, whilst a 100ton mobile crane for man riding duties.

Our site team worked closely with the Client and local stakeholders to ensure the project was completed without incident and to the Clients full satisfaction. This included working with all parties to manage work activities during times of mooring and loading vessels.
