PROJECT – Strip Out of Cooling Banks, Rollers, Transfer Tables & Quench Tanks

LOCATION –

DATE – June 2014 to May 2015

PROJECT VALUE – £400,000

PROJECT DESCRIPTION – As part of the Clients asset recovery programme, BDB Dismantling have liberated and moved to the on site scrap metal recycling facility 7500 ton of scrap metal, much of it within demanding conditions.

The level of pre clean needed to enable works to start has been a challenge throughout time spent on site. Extreme grease loss during the working life of the plant had resulted in excess of 1ft of grease needing to be cleared in places to expose the bolts and before the work engineers could issue their hot work permits.

At times working operations were carried out on multiple fronts with a maximum of 16 operatives on site all supervised by an NVQ level 6 CCDO trained site manager who was assisted and supported by the office team, some of which are IDE members.

Various plant and equipment resources have been utilized to include; overhead cranes with magnets; fuchs scrap handler; excavator; 50ton rigid dump truck, to remove the cooling banks sequentially in manageable sizes. Although initial progress was slow, experience has allowed us to refine and improve our working method.

The project has been hard work & challenging but in the process we have gained invaluable experience of working in this environment and conditions.
